Love this question 🥰 I think what’s ideal for us is just not feeling like a cupboard door with a broken hinge that feels like it could pop off at any moment! Lol.
I love to explore all the shoulder ranges, protracted, retracted, elevated, depressed and then I can more easily find the “middle”. That middle spot is our happy place!
In pushups, your shoulders are moving the whole time, so it’s definitely tricky. At the bottom your scapula are squeezed together, your chest/pectorals are really stretched out. At the top it’s somewhat the opposite pushing the floor away, shoulder blades wide apart, then in between it’s that “middle”/neutral place. You may also be surprised at how much your body needs to move forward as you lower down into the pushup. It’s not really straight down but down and forward so your shoulders are rotating a bit too! A lot going on honestly.
But the more you practice trust in the intelligence of your body to learn and do these things automatically as well. You’re much more capable than your realize my friend 🥰

Okay wait first your ship/emotions analogy is honestly so good. 🛳️ 😂
And this is such a fantastic win. So grateful that you shared this here. Thank you for showing us what a real consistent movement practice looks like. You’re awesome, Claire. So damn proud of you.
