What a great q. It’s certainly not so black and white and there’s no one size fits all answer. For men, they typically have a big testosterone spike in the morning every day. Most women get this spike once per month (at ovulation). There is data to suggest that strength training during this testosterone surge can lead to better muscle growth. That might be why we hear certain things about when we “should exercisez But those benefits are far less significant than just moving consistently as far as your overall well being and health. Now outside of the hormone levels, many people enjoy moving first thing in the morning. Because exercise gives you a bit of an endorphins and energy boost which can help you feel more energetic throughout your day. It is a quick win as well which can also have a confidence boosting effect. It can also just be the most convenient time for folks who work a 9-5 or have kids who are sleeping at that time. The before dinner time frame is odd to me, I can’t think of any reason why that would be preferred besides perhaps digestion discomfort?

I suggest trying out different times of day for your own practice (if you have that flexibility) and journaling about how it makes you feel. Sometimes I love a nighttime wind down session. I feel like a rock star when I get it done early in the morning but my most common time is in the afternoon. Rest assured there’s no right way or wrong way, just a way that may feel best for you and your unique body 🦋✨
