Katri oh wow! Such an honor to move with another pilates instructor too 🥹 sounds like we had a very similar trajectory too moving from apparatus to mat!

This is so cool to learn about you, Katri! And as a dancer it makes my heart so happy that you are finding classes you love. I will absolutely echo what both Jordan and Frances so thoughtfully reccomended. They are spot on.

The most important and beneficial thing you can do for yourself is to be consistent. Whatever classes can help you get into a consistent routine is awesome.

Weights will be your best friend for improving your strength in a really efficient way. My advice is to do 2 full body strength classes or 3-4 lower body/upper body specific per week (2 upper, 2 lower, or 2 and 1). It might just be easier to get those full body classes in but the lower body/upper body can be really useful based on how you’re feeling any given day.

Sometimes I hear the advice “just start working out for 5 minutes and if you don’t want to continue just stop but most likely you won’t want to stop”. For me personally as a hypermobile person that tip doesn’t really work for me. I often don’t feel “good” in a movement session til 20 or 30 minutes in. So if I went based on that I would probably stop after five minutes every time! Lol. All this to say it’s totally normal to feel as if a good chunk of you’re movement practice is crap. Trust me!

Progress over perfection, consistency over everything.

You’ve got this!
